可以

May / can (permission) with 可以

Structure Subject + 可以 + Verb

可以 (kěyǐ) is "can" in the sense of having permission or something being feasible: 我可以进来吗? = "may I come in?". For asking or granting permission it’s the natural word. It overlaps with 能; the usual negative is 不能 ("can’t") or 不可以 ("not allowed").
